La Perdida - Nacho Gonzalez
The 2019 vintage has just arrived from Nacho Gonzalez who makes unique wines of character in Valdeorras - the northwest corner of Galicia, Spain. The project was started in 2012 after his grandmother called on him to take up the vineyard 'O Trancado', an old neglected vineyard of Garnacha Tintorera and Mencia. Nacho now makes a range of wines from 28 tiny old parcels dotted throughout Valdeorras and a new cuvee this year from Ribeira Sacra. The whites feature Godello, Palomino, Dona Branca, and Colgadeira. The reds are from Garnacha Tintorera, Mencia, and Mouratón. The wines are often fermented in stainless steel and then aged in Spanish 'Tinajas' or amphora giving them incredible depth and texture. The cuvees are mostly parcel specific and co-planted in the old way with a few rows of white or red mixed in.
